Athletes' high performance is not only dependent on their physical capacity being at a high level. Besides physical excellence, the athlete's psychological resilience and mental toughness are also among the key factors determining success. Many studies conducted in the field of sports psychology today show that mental processes have at least as strong an effect on athletic performance as physical fitness. For this reason, the development of psychological elements such as motivation, self-confidence, stress management, and attention control has become an indispensable part of training processes. The fact that an athlete who is physically fully prepared cannot achieve the expected performance when psychologically unstable or anxious clearly demonstrates the importance of this holistic approach (Tavacıoğlu, 1999; Erkan, 1998; Akarçeşme, 2004).
