The Locality Conditions On Syntactic Displacement
ISBN: 9786051707976 2022 Eğitim Sinan Çakır Anı Yayıncılık

The generative thinking postulates that elements are not always interpreted in the positions where they merge into the derivation. They sometimes move to different nodes for checking purposes. The displaced syntactic items or their operators are subject to certain locality conditions which have been target of analyses since the early years of the generative approach. The present book aims to make an overall introduction to the locality conditions on syntactic displacement focusing mainly on Turkish. The primary goal here is to provide a reasonably comprehensive introduction to the locality effects in this language that is accessible enough for undergraduate students at the university level, while also serving as a work of reference both for linguists and for scholars from neighboring disciplines. Along with providing detailed analyses of the island constraints in Turkish, the book also presents insights to the phenomena such as sentential subjects, complementation, adjunction or relativization in this language.
